Want to Sell Your Story or Book to Hollywood?

Find Your Inner Confidence

A few years ago, a high school teacher from the suburbs of Philadelphia had his novel turned into a movie.

To date, the movie based on his book has grossed $236,412,453.

And the cherry on top… the film was nominated for an Academy Award!

The movie was Silver Linings Playbook starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.

Want to see your book, story or manuscript become a movie or TV show?

If you answered “yes” then you’re invited to join my friend Steve Harrison onFriday, November 24th for a free telephone seminar on How To Sell Your Book To Hollywood As A Movie Or TV Show… Even If It’s Self-Published

On the call Steve is interviewing a true Hollywood insider who helps hundreds of published and unpublished authors and screenwriters bring their projects to the screen.

https://m164.infusionsoft.com/go/SYBTH/A13522/

Steve’s guest has worked with some of the biggest producers and movie studios in Hollywood to get movies made, including Paramount pictures, Universal Music, Jerry Bruckheimer, the Hughes Brothers who’ve produced 6 major studio films (including The Book Of Eli starring Denzel Washington) and many more.

On the How To Sell Your Book To Hollywood As A Movie Or TV Show… Even If It’s Self-Published call, you’ll discover…

  • The number one mistake book authors make when approaching Hollywood about turning their book into a movie
(if you don’t do this one little thing right, you’re doomed from the start… yet it’s so easy to correct)

  • The formula veteran screenwriters use to catch a buyer’s attention and allow them to instantly visualize how your story will look on the screen

  • What you need to do as a self-published author to get an option on your book and how much you can expect to sell the option to your book

  • The 6 key phases of turning your book idea into a movie

  • Why the fact that all the major studios are actually making LESS movies IMPROVES your odds of having your book made into a movie (this weird dichotomy is turning Hollywood on its head and totally changing the playing field for independent publishers and writers)

  • 9 questions you need to ask yourself about your idea or story that can lead you to the right path to market your work in Hollywood

  • The differences between writing for a big Hollywood movie and episodic TV

  • The newest and one of the fastest growing markets in Hollywood, “Theater On Demand”, and why it’s perfect for self-published authors to get movies made of their work

  • The 3 biggest myths for turning a book into a movie

  • Why sending your book directly to an agent, producer, studio or production company is the WORST thing you can do (and what you need to send to these people instead of your book that will catch their attention)

  • How the Hollywood system really works (and why sending general inquiry letters to studios and production houses is a waste of time and effort)

  • How agents in the movie business are totally different than agents in the book business (and the right way to find a movie agent and send an inquiry letter that will get read and acted on)

Many people think you have to be a famous author or written a string of best sellers to have your book turned into a movie or TV series.

But the author of Silver Linings Playbook proves you don’t have to be famous or prolific.

Did you know 29,218 movies started out as books

And you can bet they weren’t all written by famous writers.

And more novels, true stories, nonfiction books and “How To” books are being turned into movies and TV shows than ever before.

In fact, 5 of the 9 Academy Award nominated films for 2012 started out as books

And right now Hollywood producers are looking for more books and stories they can turn into movies and TV shows.

That’s because today there are more broadcast channels, thousands of cable channels, a growing number of independent film companies, movies and videos on demand, online movies and MORE media outlets now than at any other time in history.

And guess what all these media companies need?

They all need fresh content.

And books (both fiction and non fiction… and everything from novels to how-to books) are the perfect source material for new movies and TV shows.

If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing your “name up in lights”…

If you have a message you think can be turned into a movie or TV series…

Or if you’re just plain fed up with the quality of shows on TV today and know your story would make for better viewing…

Then make sure to jump on the free telephone seminar on Friday, November 24th.  It’s free for you to listen in on the interview. Just go here now to reserve your spot:

Tuesday 11/21: How Jack created 47 NY Times bestselling books

Finding Your Inner Confidence

When he was first starting out, Jack Canfield and his credit cards were almost maxed out and 144 publishers had rejected his book “Chicken Soup for the Soul.”

But he never gave up his dream of being a bestselling author.

Today Jack is arguably the most successful, bestselling non-fiction author of all time.

He has over 500 million books in print and has launched 47 New York Times bestsellers (and even had 7 books simultaneously on the list at one point).

But how did Jack get from where he was to where he really wanted to be?

You can find out on a free webinar, on Tuesday, November 21st, on which Jack will be interviewed by Steve Harrison, who has helped over 12,000 authors promote their books.

Whether your book right now is just a dream, a still-to-be-completed manuscript, or a published reality, this call is for you.

  • Jack’s journey from inner city public school teacher to bestselling author and speaker.
  • Why becoming a bestseller is no longer about luck – it’s about having a plan.
  • 5 ways writing a book will change your life.
  • What you should ideally be doing before you start writing your book and trying to get it published.
  • How Jack responded when his book was initially rejected by 144 publishers as well as his own literary agent, and how you too can find the inspiration to keep going.
  • Key insights into how the publishing and book marketing game really works.
  • A simple technique Jack used in writing his book, “The Success Principles,” which allowed him to later sell thousands of copies to a single company. Plus, how Jack used the same method to land 50 speaking engagements — all because of something he did while writing the book.
  • A powerful way to overcome any initial discomfort you might feel about putting yourself out there as an author, speaker, book promoter or talk show guest.
  • How to structure your book so it’s the best possible book it can be and people tell their friends about it Some of the pros and cons between traditional publishing and self publishing.

How to Land a TEDx Talk (and Other Tips for Becoming a Success Speaker)

Finding Your Inner Confidence

TEDx Talk Webinar

Would you like to do a TEDx talk?

Rise Wilson- Founder of The Laundromat Project

This is Rise Wilson’s YouTube video that forever and a day can be visited by hundreds, thousands and millions of viewers who subscribe to YouTube.

Rise Wilson is the founder of The Laundromat Project – How Making Art is a Practice Space for Becoming A Change Agent. Ms. Wilson also happens to be my niece.

You should really consider it.

Why?  Because when you give a really good TEDx talk, it’s not uncommon for the video of your talk to be seen on YouTube by hundreds of thousands of people all around the world.

Imagine someone Googling your name and the first thing they see is a TEDx talk with more than 300,000 views.  That’s credibility!

But of course, there’s a lot you need to know to make this happen.
First, most TEDx organizers are flooded with applications from far more would-be speakers than they can accept.  Plus, many only accept those based on very narrow criteria, such as being associated with a given university.

Second, the quality of the video you’ll get from your TEDx talk varies dramatically depending on the organizer – which is a huge problem, since coming away with a really compelling, well-edited video on YouTube is the biggest payoff of your talk.  A not-so great video might be worse than none at all.

My friend Steve Harrison and his team have helped 19 of his clients land TEDx talks in the last few years. They’ve learned an enormous amount in the process, and they’ll be sharing some of that wisdom in a live web class this Thursday.

Join Steve’s free web class on “How to Land a TEDx Talk (and Other Tips for Becoming a Successful Speaker)” this Wednesday, November 15th, at your choice of 2pm Eastern (11 am Pacific) or 7 pm Eastern (4 pm Pacific).

=> https://m164.isrefer.com/go/QLTEDxLivecast/A13522/

Here’s a sneak peek at what Steve and Geoffrey Berwind, one of the world’s foremost public speaking and storytelling experts, will show you on the web class:

–     How delivering a really good TEDx talk can be a huge boost to your career.

–     What you need to know about the process of landing a TEDx talk.

–     Want to write a book but it’s not out yet?  Discover why you might considering doing a TEDx talk first.

–     Actual case histories of authors, experts and entrepreneurs who landed TEDx talks… what they learned… plus how they made it pay off.

–     3 ways to instantly improve any talk you give.

–     What a “signature story” is and why it’s so important you have one.

–     5 of the most important things every speaker should know about storytelling.

–     And more!

Friday Night Road Trips

Advice From One Smart Lady

I remember Fridays when I was very young waiting impatiently for my Dad to come home from work. As I look back I marvel at my father’s stamina. We lived in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. He worked in North Wales, PA which was a little over 15 miles by car. Each day he drove 30 miles or more back and forth to his job. On Friday’s he drove home and loaded the car with my mother, my four siblings and myself, and retraced his route partially to take us to our grandfather’s store to do the grocery marketing.
I am absolutely floored by my father’s dedication to us. Remember he drove 30 miles that day back and forth from work. He then retraced a little over 13 miles of that trip to get to our grandparent’s home in Penllyn, PA. The blessing was our grandmother always had a meal waiting for us.
For me, the highlight of that trip was walking into my grandfather’s store, “Wilson’s Grocery Market”. It was a stucco and brick building at the end of their backyard.

I now realize it was there I received my baptism to be an entrepreneur. During the 50s and early 60s, people did not many supermarkets to choose from. They shopped in their neighborhoods at small family stores. The shelves were always fully stocked, waiting for the customers to come. I now understand the feeling as I built my store online, and now each day wait for my customers to come.
Unlike most online merchants, I have experienced the joy and pride of the waiting period. I enjoy the time I spend tweaking and looking for new products to add to my online shopping mall. Sales come in as people need what I sell. I understand that, and I have built the Pearline Shopping Mall with a strong foundation to withstand the wait.
There are preparations to make if you are looking to build your store online. If you have been watching the explosive growth of Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and Shopify, you must accept the reality, it is about “eCommerce”. I remember there was a movie “The Graduate” where the insider stressed “One word, Plastics”. Indeed he was right. Look at our world today, overwhelmed with plastic products.
I highly recommend you join me in learning how to bring your product and/or services offline and jump in with both feet and join the eCommerce wave. I have been actively and purposely learning eCommerce and Social Media Marketing from an awesome group of experts. Over the past ten years, I have mastered the art of blogging. I am now learning how to merge what I love, writing with my eCommerce ventures.
One of the questions I am sure to be asked, “What does this have to do with writing and publishing a book?” My answer, “Once your book is published, you have to market, advertise and sell it. Your book is now a product. You may also have a workshop or speech presentation attached to this book. You must learn about marketing funnels, autoresponders, and other tools.”
If you have any questions, please list them in the comments below so my answers will help others who may have the same question.

Get An Accountable Partner

Advice From One Smart Lady

Source: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/accountability

 Merriam‑Webster

Definition of accountability. : the quality or state of being accountable; especially: an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions.

You should not work alone in a vacuum. It is draining and a waste of time and energy. You need someone who understands and shares your vision. It is important that this someone does not steer you off course with their opinions and insights they may have about your vision. Constructive criticism is important to keep you on track, just beware of criticism that destroys your passion and momentum. An accountability partner’s purpose is to ensure you do what you say you are going to do each and every day or as often as you schedule the time to meet.

Accountability partner(s) can be other entrepreneurs who complement your products and services. You work together to achieve the same vision; setting down different business tracks to follow. In 1992, I joined forces with two gentlemen, Ted Morse of HR Management Group (Blue Bell, PA) and Stan Poduch a Human Resources Professional (Scranton, PA), when I was living and working out of my apartment in Voorhees, NJ. The three of us were independent product consultants for Abra Software, and we met in Florida at an annual conference. Ted was a consummate salesman and Stan’s passion was teaching. I brought my technical skills to the table. I installed the human resource and payroll software and wrote computer code to connect their legacy (older) systems to the new personal computer-based software system. We were very successful. We worked as a team, growing each area of interest. I was paid as an independent contractor allowing me the freedom to do business elsewhere. Eventually, we went our separate ways, and I concentrated putting more time in building my publishing business.

I am blessed to have an accountability partner for both business, and personal life. Working from home takes two different support systems. If you are wise, you would do the same, make sure someone who wants only the best for you and your passionate pursuits is there to make sure you get the rest that you need. You eat and exercise. Balancing your time between the hours you work, and the personal time you take for yourself is a topic for another day.

Remember: “Accountability Breeds Response-ability” Steven Covey.

S.A.V.E. 30 Day Challenge

Advice From One Smart Lady

Are you ready for a challenge? Challenging yourself is the best way to break old unproductive habits, and create new habits which on a daily basis help you move toward achieving the goals you set down for yourself. Remember incorporate the S.T.E.A.M. method of marketing and you will build a targeted following who will eventually buy your products and services.

Here is a 30-Day Challenge called S.A.V.E.R.S., and it is a lifesaving personal development tool. For 30 days, I challenge you to commit yourself to the following:

  1. Find an accountability partner who you can share your daily activities and achievements.
  2. S- Silence
    • Find a quiet place and set time to be still. I do my morning devotions in my office. I have a bay window where I can gaze out and watch the morning come to life as I write out my morning prayers and thoughts.
  3. A-Affirmations
    • Through my morning devotions, I practice affirming who I am and what I am doing and what the Lord is doing in my life to guide me through each decision that I make. I affirm my faith in the path He has defined for me and affirmed. I am committed to staying on that path.
  4. V-Visualization
    • Through my morning devotions, I practice visualization of how I see activities unfolding. Of course, I am in a state of prayer believing and having faith that my vision is guided by the Holy Spirit.
    • Visualizing our visions help stimulate the growth of our mind. The following article, from the HBCU Careers Forum – Having A Vision The Essence of Life and Success, is more detailed in telling why we should have visions.
    • In today’s world,  we are constantly bombarded by the news daily with so many things that really don’t  stimulate the true growth of the mind but instead deter you from having a solid sense of hope and success.  A vision is essential to having a more positive outcome and is vital to success. Learning new things is great for the brain and will create new pathways of thought and focus. When centered and applied properly,  a vision will allow one to gain new insights and abilities to create not only a new way of life but also a new world around them. A vision is a picture or an idea one may have in the mind for self, business or any other future endeavor.  Clarity of that vision helps one to pursue dreams, achieve goals and produce a more successful and prosperous outcome. A vision that is clear will open the mind to endless possibilities and unlimited points of the future.   Having a vision is one of the most important factors in the path of one’s success in life. You feel much more valuable as a person when you set and achieve visions and goals. When visions and goals are set and defined, the value of the person is increased exponentially. The Bible, in Proverbs 29:18, says,” Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Read More)
  5. E – Exercise
    • Need I say more. Everywhere you look, there are articles and videos about the importance of
My first 5K Walk in 2015.

My first 5K Walk in 2015.

exercise. Just walking 30 minutes a day is more beneficial than eating and leading a sedentary life.  I joined a local group (Girl Trek – Delaware Sole Sisters) who are unbelievably dedicated to getting their exercise in. They are 15 to 20 years younger, and I do not participate in all of the events. I am looking for Brazenly Bold Third Agers such as myself to be accountability exercise partners.

  6. R – Reading
    • Set a timer and read 15 – 20 minutes every day. “Leaders are Readers.” You are never too old. If you have limited sight, get the audio version of books and listen to them.
  7. S – Scribing
    • “Just Write” and don’t worry about grammar and structure. Write out what is on your mind. What are you hoping for? What disappoints you? How can you get around stumbling blocks and circumstance which would normally stop you in your tracks. Keep a journal which can be used as content for fiction and non-fiction.
    • I kept a journal after my late husband, Donald, passed away from cancer in 2003, I took my journal note, poems and letters I wrote and published them a book titled,  “Joy Comes Through the Mourning.” Writing is the best medicine anyone could have prescribed anyone going through the grieving process. In 2015, I published a book entitled, “Isaiah’s Gift of Hope” by Crystal Cambisaca. Remember grieving does not only mean death. We grieve when we lose people, places, and things.
    • The important thing to remember is to “Just Write.” Your journey can become your biography or content for fiction, and your notes can capture the detailed activity and help you define the outline for your book.

Committing yourself to a 30-Day Challenge is hard work. I am in the final days of my 90-Day Challenge and I can see the transformation of my attitude and my lack of fear of facing actions that would have been very uncomfortable for me to confront. To succeed you must take measurable action. Start your transformation today.

I look forward to continuing the conversation with you. Send me an email, comment below or follow me on Facebook. I am building a library of my video feed under my personal page: One Smart Lady. Gamify Your Life

Advice from One Smart Lady

Deborah with Chris Record

Deborah with Chris Record

Chris Record presented knowledge he learned from disciplining himself to read each and every day. He does not profess to be a genius, but he is. He has a ninth grade education, and today is about to launch the first standardized and certified online college. He presented a new way to build a productive daily life, Gamify. He suggests that we not focus on the struggles we go through each day attempting to build our businesses as entrepreneurs. He suggested we identify each phase of our business and life plans and break them down into smaller sections.

I set up five segments and within each segment, I set up seven levels to achieve and earn points. My next step is to set up rewards I receive as I reach each level.

Segment 1: Spirituality – I maintain daily devotion time to spend with the Lord where the Holy Spirit shares with me the things I need to get me through the day. I use this time to reflect on my successes and failures.

Segment 2: Mindset – I have a positive mindset, and I approach challenges and changes based on how I respond in a positive and contemplative way.

Segment 3: Health – I continue not to rely on prescription drugs to maintain good health.

Segment 4: Relationship – I maintain a God-centered relationship in my marriage, family, friends, business partners, and clients/customers.

Segment 5: Entrepreneurship – I maintain a consistent income to remain debt free and sustain a discretionary income to serve.

Let me show you how it works.

Under Segment 5 – Entrepreneurship, it is my desire to earn $1 million on a regular basis. Based on the tools and skills that I have been given I can do it. It is just a matter of when I will earn the first million.

Level 1: Established a presence on the Internet-10 points

Level 2: Engage with visitors to my different pages and websites-10 points

  • Respond and Track (Likes/Hearts/Emojis; New Followers; Hashtags)

Level 3: Partner with other entrepreneurs whose product and services compliment mine-10 points

Level 4: Begin earning income from my Online Store15 points

Level 5: Begin teaching and signing up first-time entrepreneurs who wish to duplicate what I am doing.-15 points

Level 6: Consistently marketing and selling products (i.e. Online Educational Courses {link available 8/24/2016})-15 points

Level 7: Receive consisted payment from the Vendors.-25 points

Here is a blog article I found written by Benjamin Braddle on August 1, 2016. His article will take you into more detail. As I roll out more business strategies, I will share them with you.

http://blog.trello.com/get-more-done-gamify-your-life/

To set up your Gamify levels ask yourself these questions:

  1. Who do you want to be?
  2. What do you want to have?
  3. What does it look like?

You can run your game for 30-day cycles and change the rules as you grow. You should be consistently striving to grow and see never-ending improvement. Don’t get overwhelmed by all of the links. I’ve been building my internet presence over the last 20 years or so. Just take baby steps and soon you will be running with the big folk.

Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead

Paradise Valley Phoenix, Arizona

Paradise Valley
Phoenix, Arizona

I have been an entrepreneur for over 30 years now. I never get tired of saying that because it is a remarkable feat. Just think for more than three decades, I have been blessed and privileged to follow my dreams and passion in making a living for myself and my family. I have not always been as structured and organized as most people think, especially my clients. It is easy to be structured and organized when you have a system.

For the first 15 years, I was blessed to work with other entrepreneurs whose business and skills complemented what I was offering. I was the most successful when others marketed my computer training and programming expertise and services. I just had to show up. But then, I found I had a burning passion for doing something other than write code or drive 30 miles to train a classroom of people forced to learn the software package. Otherwise, they could not keep their jobs. Everything at that time was moving from mainframe computer to desktop. There is nothing harder than to teach adults who do not want to be taught. I stood over one woman who refused to touch the keyboard and taught using her computer as the training tool. She was a VP in HR and did not type.

Thank God, I had my passion, the love of writing and storytelling. I founded my publishing company, Gladstone Publishing Services in 1998. From that point on, until today, I have enjoyed living and working in the sweet spot. I love to write, and I love helping first-time and aspiring writers get their books in print. Until recently that was as far as I was willing and able to take them.

Until recently, marketing was not in my “wheelhouse” so I could only help my clients write, edit and finally get their book in print. My experience over the last two months investigating companies who teach social media marketing has led me to The 4 Percent Group. Through my association with them, I was able to the attend a marketing mastermind training session and three-day seminar in Phoenix.

A new internet company is launching a new online school that is not all hype, but will teach substance with usable content. I was blessed to sit through multiple audit sessions and learned Social Media tools to help me move my business to the next level up. I’ve opened my first operational online store “The Pearline Oyster Shopping Mall”. It took me three days to step through the process. I had attempted to do online sales through various sites but even with my programming skills was confused.

As a solopreneur, I also need to set doable action steps that will lead to attracting new clients and customers for my products and services. Since returning from Phoenix, I have begun a daily Morning Inspiration live feed on Facebook.

Don't Miss Your Target

Don’t Miss Your Target

S.T.E.A.M. method of taking control of your work day gives you the tools to stay focused and work consistently without wasting time and energy following weak sales and marketing practices. I also learned there is a difference between Sales and Marketing.

We always say, “Sales and Marketing.” But what we do not realize, sales does not come before marketing. As inexperienced entrepreneurs, we put all of our energy in the sales of the product or service. It is in the marketing where we build relationships with our targeted audience.

If you would learn more about how S.T.E.A.M. can be applied to your personal social media business, comment below and I will work with you, at no charge. What I learned about S.T.E.A.M. I received freely, and I gladly pass it on to you freely. In fact, our instructor challenged us to pass it on. I gave this information to a wonder woman I sat next to on my flight home. She was resistant to being on the internet but recognized its value for business.

I also ask you to please share this article with others who are new or struggling to find their way on social media. Learn how to build your personal traffic and followers, and not spend dollars chasing rabbits or shiny objects.
